The three-day historical Srirangapatna Dasara festivities began on a colourful note on 3/10/2019 evening.

Former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna inaugurated the event by offering flowers to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, placed in a wooden ‘ambari’ on the decorated elephant ‘Abhimanyu’, at Bannimantap at Kirangur Gate, off the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway.

Two more elephants, ‘Kaveri’ and ‘Vijaya’, accompanied ‘Abhimanyu’ during the ‘Jamboo Savari’ of Goddess Chamundeshwari, which concluded outside Sri Ranganathaswamy temple after passing on the highway. Around 25 tableaus and several cultural troupes participated in the procession.

Various art forms were displayed by artistes throughout the procession.  The seven MLAs from the district and Mandya Lok Sabha member Sumalatha Ambareesh did not attend the inauguration of the festival, which has a history of over 400 years.

Revenue Minister R. Ashok, Deputy Commissioner M.V. Venkatesh, Superintendent of Police K. Parashuram, Zilla Panchayat CEO K. Yalakki Gowda, Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Yogesh, and District Information Officer K.T. Harish were present.
